A Message from Our Director: Exciting New Funding Opportunities for iOS Members
Dear iOS Members,
I am pleased to announce two new funding opportunities available to Institute for Optical Science (iOS) members: the Agostini/DiMauro Visiting Scholar Funds and the iOS Collaborative Grants. Applications for these funds can be submitted to the iOS on an ad hoc basis and will be evaluated by the iOS Executive Committee.
We anticipate individual awards of up to $6,000. Proposals on any topic that have the potential to benefit and advance the field of optical sciences in Ohio are welcome and encouraged. Additionally, users collaborating with NSF NeXUS facility scientists can jointly apply for support for their experimental campaigns. The Visiting Scholar Fund (VSF) is made possible through a generous donation from Dr. Sailesh Chittipeddi, who received his Ph.D. in Physics from Ohio State working with Prof. Arthur Epstein. This funding vehicle is inspired by the historical collaboration between Ohio State faculty member Prof. Pierre Agostini and myself. Our years of collaboration have led to many groundbreaking discoveries in the optical sciences, culminating in the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physics awarded to Prof. Agostini for the discovery of attosecond light pulses.
The intended uses of the VSF include, but are not limited to, covering travel expenses for a visiting scholar sponsored by an iOS member or for an iOS member to have a reciprocal visit with another scholar.
The iOS Collaborative Grants (CG) program is made possible with support from Ohio State’s Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge (ERIK). It is intended to bring fellow researchers together while increasing the visibility of iOS. The CG will provide funds and administrative support for collaborative efforts, including such things as organizing workshops or developing proposals.
