X-lites Working Groups

X-Lites Logo

The X-lites Executive Leadership committee has formed three working groups for 2025 to address challenges and opportunities of interest to our members.

We welcome and encourage anyone interested in these topics to join a working group and support our work. If you are interested in joining, contact us to learn about upcoming meetings and opportunities.

Early Career Development

This working group exists to support early career researchers to be effective team leaders and team members through virtual and in-person workshops, ultimately creating an upcoming workforce who have an understanding of how to lead sizable teams from different institutions.

This working group plans to organize team science workshops for early career researchers, sponsor participation in international summer schools, and organize events focused on student researchers at the X-lites conference.

We are seeking support from both seasoned and early career researchers to help guide our efforts and understand the challenges and opportunities for extreme light researchers early in their career.

Note: X-lites is defining early career researchers to include undergraduate students, graduate students, postdocs, pre-tenure faculty, and facility staff who are less than 5-years since their most recent degree.

Leaders: Cristina Hernandez-Gomez and Louise Willingale

Facilities and Users

This working group exists to support X-lites facilities by sharing best practices, useful tools, challenges, and strategies. We aim to create long-term collaboration and communication among facility staff to benefit facility users and sponsors and to grow the user base for all facilities.

This working group will organize discussions and speakers to encourage network development and sharing among facility staff. Priority topics for this year include ramping up new facilities, website portals to support users and user proposals, data standards and practices, and opportunities to expand the user community for extreme light facilities.

We are seeking support from facility staff, leadership, and users to build this network, share, and learn from one another.

Science and Technology

This working group exists to advance shared, impactful technologies and enable multi-facility scientific collaborations across the X-lites facilities. We will discuss opportunities and challenges at the frontiers of the field of extreme light, ultimately creating effective partnerships that can secure sponsor support for joint technology development and scientific research.

This working group will organize discussions and speakers to encourage network development, idea development, and sharing among facility users and staff.

We are seeking support from researchers and staff interested in advancing the frontiers of extreme light, stretching across typical disciplinary boundaries of high field, short pulse, and high spatial resolution.
