Mentoring in team science looks different from traditional one-to-one mentoring. It means guiding, supporting, and learning alongside colleagues who span disciplines, roles, and perspectives.
This interactive workshop invites you to explore what effective mentorship looks like in cross-disciplinary research contexts—where collaboration, communication, and shared sensemaking are as essential as technical expertise.
Together, we’ll introduce key team-science concepts drawn from current research, including:
- Core characteristics and competencies of successful scientists working in collaborative, cross-disciplinary environments
 - Team developmental stages and how mentoring needs shift as teams evolve from formation to impact
 - Teaching, mentoring, coaching: how are they similar and different

The session will be highly interactive, featuring reflective exercises, small-group practice, and real-world mentoring scenarios. Participants will also have opportunities to form or strengthen mentoring relationships within the X-Lites Early Career Researcher Working Group that can continue beyond the workshop.
Come join us to connect, practice, and re-imagine what mentorship can look like in the complex, collaborative world of team science.

What is the X-lites Network?
The Extreme Light in Intensity, Time, and Space (X-lites) network promotes collaboration around the world to make use of new extreme light facilities.
The network is bringing together facility users and facility operators to support high-impact science and engineering using extreme light.
