In Case You Missed It: The Institute for Optical Science at Ohio State hosts New York Times reporter, Kenneth Chang

Mr. Kenneth Chang, science reporter for The New York Times, visited Ohio State to share his talk, "Science to Words." Chang has been a science reporter for The New York Times for over 20 years!

On March 26, 2024, his talk received a large turnout, leaving standing room only for some attendees!

You can read more about Chang's work here.

Abstract:  The language of science — especially physics! — is math. But you'll almost never see an integral sign, a Greek letter, an exponent, or even an equal sign in The New York Times. Although science writers, like scientists, want to convey information accurately, precisely explaining scientific findings to a general audience is impossible. So what is possible? I will explain what I try to do with words when I write a science article and what I hope you come away with when you read what I write. Plus: some tips about what to say if I call asking about your research.
