Welcome Matthew Boersma, IOS Admin!
Please join me in giving a warm welcome to our new Office Administrator, Matthew Boersma!
Matt will be providing administrative support to the Institute for Optical Science, as well as assisting our Nobel Laureate, Prof. Pierre Agostini and our current Office Admin, Jessi Middleton.
Getting to Know You: Matt
MATT: I recently graduated with my Master’s in Information and Communication Sciences at Ball State, and along the way, I picked up some skills in teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. As a Graduate Assistant, I got to dive into research, mentor fellow students, and keep the lab running smoothly. I’ve also dabbled in a bit of everything from tech support to customer service to healthcare- so I’m pretty adaptable and love jumping into new challenges!
JESSI: What is an accomplishment that you are most proud of?
MATT: An accomplishment that I am most proud of would have to be completing my master’s program. I jumped straight into it after getting my undergraduate degree, and it was an advanced 11-month program. It is by far one of the hardest things I have done, but I am so proud of myself for doing it!
JESSI: What are your interests/hobbies in your free time?
MATT: In my free time, I love spending time with my partner, family, and friends! I love going on walks when I can, trying new coffee shops (frequently visiting ones I already love), and exploring new places in general. I also get very into holidays, and now that we are getting closer to them, I couldn’t be more excited!
JESSI: What are you most looking forward to in your new role?
MATT: I am most looking forward to all the new challenges that I will face within my new role. This is also something that I have never done before, but I am excited to be back in the science field as my undergraduate was in Biology. I also look forward to working with everyone [at Ohio State] and whoever else I meet along the way!
