Szeged Success: X-lites Workshop Illuminates Path Forward for Early Career Laser Researchers

๐ Highlights from the X-lites Early Career Development Workshop at the 2025 ELI - Extreme Light Infrastructure User Meeting!
The NSF X-lites Network hosted a workshop for 17 Early Career Researchers from 14 different institutions that provided actionable tools to build lasting collaborations and maximize the impact of research.

The workshop also discussed:
- preparation of the researchers for team leadership roles
- skills needed to form and support an effective team
- the factors that have been proven to improve or degrade a team depending on how they are managed
Attendees participated in multiple exercises that encouraged them to think about their own approach to these topics. The workshop concluded with a networking event that encouraged the attendees to build relationships with one another and with senior researchers from the ELI user community.
The X-lites Network provided travel fellowships for the Early Career Researchers to attend both the X-lites Workshop and the ELI User Meeting held at the ELI ALPS Facility in Szeged, Hungary. At the User Meeting the researchers were able to build their professional network, learn about the ELI facilities, learn about ELI-supported research, and present on their research at a poster session.
Special congratulations to the Poster Competition winners whose travel was funded by X-lites:
๐ฅ Young Scientist Award - Parnia Bastani Elahabadi (National Research Council Canada /INRS)
๐ฅ Most Innovative Idea - Smrithan Ravichandran (University of Maryland)

Thank everyone who joined us for an exciting and engaging workshop! We hope that the conversations and connections formed will continue to shape our shared future in laser research.
What is the X-lites Network?
The Extreme Light in Intensity, Time, and Space (X-lites) network promotes collaboration around the world to make use of new extreme light facilities.
The network is bringing together facility users and facility operators to support high-impact science and engineering using extreme light.
